MEET THE FOUNDER
Val Valdez
Strength was created to bridge the gap between physical therapy and fitness, providing a space where people can focus on their whole-body wellness, no matter where they are in their journey. At Strength, they place a strong emphasis on education, ensuring every client works with knowledgeable, highly trained professionals. Their goal is to help individuals build confidence, feel powerful in their bodies, and manage chronic conditions with support and guidance. From the beginning, the vision has remained the same: to create a space where people learn to lift safely, stay healthy, and build strength for life.
Val founded Strength in June 2020 and has since dedicated herself to transforming her passion for health and movement into something meaningful for the community. Originally from Los Angeles, she moved to Monterey to attend CSU Monterey Bay, where she studied Exercise Physiology. During her studies, she gained hands-on experience in both a hospital setting and a physical therapy clinic, helping individuals regain strength and mobility.
After graduating, Val was accepted into the Physical Therapy program at Duke University. However, during her first semester, she realized that the constraints of the insurance system would limit the time and depth of care she could offer patients. Wanting to make a broader and more lasting impact, she made the difficult decision to leave the program and pursue a different path—one that allowed her to support people long-term. For Val, owning her own business has been an incredibly rewarding way to fulfill that purpose.
